Role: Game Designer / Concept Artist / 2D Artist
Project: Individual Game Design Project — Digital Game Art
Genre: Action RPG · Choice-Based Narrative · Historical Docufiction
Engine: Unity
Duration: 1-month prototype
Target: Original IP
Brief: Develop an original game concept combining action RPG mechanics, player choice, and interactive historical storytelling.
Nukilik was my first individual game project and one of my earliest experiences bringing together game design, visual development, narrative, and implementation into a playable prototype.
The game is an action RPG with choice-based systems and an interactive docufiction approach, set during the period of the Great Discoveries. The story follows four Inuit sisters and their dogs as they travel toward their grandfather's village, facing the harsh winter, rival groups, and the arrival of European colonisers.
For this project, I was responsible for the majority of the game's development, excluding the 3D assets. My work included game design, visual direction, asset design, level design, mechanics, and implementation in Unity.
In Game Design:
Developed the core game concept and gameplay direction;
Designed the game's visual style and 2D assets;
Created the level structure and gameplay mechanics;
Developed the choice-based elements and narrative direction;
Implemented the prototype in Unity.
Nukilik was an ambitious first step into game development and taught me how important it is to balance creative scope with the time and technical resources available. It remains a project I would like to revisit as my skills in game design and development continue to grow.
